What experience do I need to hire and navigate a canal boat?
Many people who hire canal boats are initially complete beginners and all training is given beforehand including lock training, swing bridges and turning the boat around. Generally it is very quick and easy to learn how to steer and cruise a canal boat and we don’t leave until you feel perfectly happy to operate the boat.
How many guests does the boat accommodate?
The boat sleeps 6 people and we also now take dogs!
Where would you suggest we take the boat and what can you see/visit?
From Bathampton you can either cruise West into the city of Bath to experience the picturesque architecture, visit a number of museums or view the historic Roman baths or alternatively sample countrylife by taking the boat East through Somerset and Wiltshire towards Bradford on Avon, Devizes, and Pewsey to see aqueducts, wildlife, go wild swimming and of course sample the great food and drink from several pubs and restaurants located by the canal side.
Do you take pets?
Yes, but all pets must have their own beds (no access to sofa/beds!), sleep in the living room and have trays under water bowls. We also kindly ask for owners to bring a set of ‘dog towels’ for rainy days!
When is weekly hire from?
Pick up of the boat is 10.00am Saturday and drop off is Friday 5.30pm (ie you get 6 nights but 7 days cruising).
What do I need to bring apart from food, drink and clothes?
Not much as we mostly have everything on board including all kitchenware, linen, wood for the wood burner, umbrella etc. Warm clothes and waterproofs are useful however as well as non slip shoes!
Do you hire to stag parties, hen parties etc
No, I’m very sorry but we cater for families, couples or mixed couples.
Do you provide life jackets?
Yes, in all sizes.
What is included in the price?
Everything including bed linen, towels and diesel! Just bring your food, drink and suitcases!
Can I charge my mobile phone and ipad on board?
Yes, either by 12V or 240V chargers.
Is there a television on board?
We rather promote playing lots board games (provided on board) and the adventure to be had with your friends/family but yes there is unlimited wifi for you to use on your phone.
Where do we stop at night?
Anywhere along the towpath, with very few exceptions. There are designated ‘visitor moorings’ at popular places, and mooring your boat here is typically limited to 48 hours. You must make sure that you avoid mooring your boat within 50 metres of a lock or bridge, so that other boaters can pass by safely.
Do you offer private parking?
Yes, we offer private parking at £20 but you are equally welcome to park the car very near in a public road.
Do we accept single sex parties?
Alas not I am sorry to say. However, you could try canal boat holidays
